Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP)

Program Highlight: ACCAP Senior Programs & Community Partnership with Anoka Women of Today 

ACCAP Senior Programs serves Anoka County seniors (60+) through several programs including Senior Information Line, Chores & More, Senior Kinship and Senior Outreach. The Senior Programs team is comprised of ten Anoka County residents that are committed to enrich the lives of their senior neighbors through providing support, resources, connections and much more. Programs also rely heavily on volunteers, contracted workers and community partners.

One community partner, The Anoka Women of Today, was honored in May with the highly sought out Gordon Harvey Award and were recognized at ACCAP’s Annual Governing Board Meeting.

Anoka Women of Today focuses on community service, personal growth and building friendships. In 2021, Pam Dyer with Anoka Women of Today reached out because they had a strong desire to connect to seniors in Anoka County. Dyer attempted to contact several senior serving communities and received no return calls. ACCAP Senior Programs staff gladly told Dyer that they would love to partner.

Since 2021, Anoka Women of Today Sunshine for Seniors has donated care packages quarterly to ACCAP’s Senior Kinship Program and Senior Programs. They collect items, handmake items, receive donations for items and put together care packages for ACCAP senior clients. They put T.L.C. into each and every care package. Packages are filled with necessities like batteries, socks, postage stamps and more. They also fill packages with items to spoil seniors like snacks, holiday items, decorations and more. Volunteers and staff deliver packages to clients, and clients are delighted to received the care packages. Members of Anoka Women of Today have attended Senior Kinship Program Card Writing Events, they contribute cards to the annual holiday card distributions and a couple of members have even become volunteers with ACCAP’s Senior Kinship Program.

ACCAP feels blessed to have an amazing community partnership with the Anoka Women of Today.

ACCAP Senior Programs have been serving Anoka County senior neighbors since the 1970’s, and they have been successful because of compassionate staff, volunteers, contracted workers and community partners.
