Program highlight: Youth Participant Event – “Together We Art”
On July 17, 2025, youth from across Martin County participated in “Together We Art,” a multifaceted event designed to encourage career exploration, creative expression, and essential life skill development. Activities included a watercolor art project where youth crafted personalized cards, a hair styling session led by two former MVAC participants now working professionally, and a floral design workshop that emphasized creativity and the joy of gift-giving. Participants also gained budgeting and professional styling experience through a visit to a consignment shop focused on affordable work attire. These hands-on workshops provided meaningful exposure to artistic and vocational opportunities in a supportive and engaging environment.
During a shared meal with students from nine counties, youth attended peer-led sessions covering key life and workplace topics such as food preparation and safety, basic car maintenance, job retention strategies, living with ADHD, and career goal setting. The event concluded with a visit to the “Imagine Martins, Art Mart,” where participants interacted with local vendors and observed small business entrepreneurship in action. Throughout the day, youth demonstrated high levels of engagement, collaboration, and curiosity, gaining valuable skills and insights that support both personal development and future career readiness.
This program was created initially for Minnesota Youth Program participants, but staff felt it should be offered to all Youth in our Employment Programs, so we utilized CSBG to support those additional attendees.
