Advocate
WHAT IS ADVOCACY?
Advocacy is the act of speaking up, taking action, and working to influence decisions that impact individuals, families, and communities. At MinnCAP, advocacy means elevating the voices of those experiencing poverty and ensuring their realities are understood in policies, programs, and systems.
Advocacy can happen at many levels—from individual conversations to community initiatives to policy change—and everyone has a role to play.
WHY ADVOCACY MATTERS
Every day, decisions are made that shape access to housing, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. Without intentional advocacy, the voices of those most impacted by poverty are often underrepresented.
Advocacy helps to:
- Create more equitable and effective systems
- Inform decision-makers with real community experiences
- Break down barriers that keep individuals and families from thriving
- Move from short-term solutions to long-term change
